The European Commission was represented by László Andor, Commissioner of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, and the Vice-President Viviane Reding, Commissioner of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship. The Spanish Presidency, on the other part, was represented by Celestino Corbacho, Ministry of Labour and Migration, Bibiana Aído, Ministry of Equality and Trinidad Jiménez Ministry of Health and Social Policy.
The Conclusions, adopted in this session, invites the Commission and the Member States to advance the social and economic integration of Roma within the framework of the decisions and recommendations made by the EU institutions; to make progress in mainstreaming Roma issues into European and national policies (including the Europe 2020 Strategy); to take into account the Common Basic Principles; to support the current Trio of Presidencies (Spain, Belgium and Hungary) is giving priority to issues to be followed in the future Platform activities in accordance with the Joint Statement adopted by the Trio on the occasion of the Second European Roma Summit; among others.
For EURoma purposes it must be highlighted the invitation to ensure that existing EU financial instruments and especially the Structural Funds are accessible to Roma, as well as to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the amendment of Art. 7 of Regulation 1080/2006/EC (ERDF) by initiating appropriate integrated actions for the support of Roma communities in both rural and urban areas with a view to the improvement of housing conditions and desegregation.
