Structural Funds: Investing in Roma
14 March 2011
At its upcoming meeting on 11th-12th May in Prague, EURoma members and other stakeholders will review the draft this Guide which will be published in June in cooperation with the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission.
A working session during EU Roma´s meeting will allow partners -Management Authorities of the Funds as well as competent authorities regarding Roma policies in 12 EU Member States- to exchange views on the draft proposal of the Guide. Other key actors in the field, including the Committee of the Regions, Eurocities, the network of cities ROMA-NET and several municipalities will be invited to join the session and provide their input. The objective is to collect the views of partners and other key actors on the draft proposal in order to take them into account for the final version and therefore ensure their active participation in the drafting of the Guide. The publication of the Guide is foreseen for June this year.
The Guide is intended to be a practical tool for local and regional administrations with a two-fold objective:
- Stress the local and regional dimension in the social inclusion of the Roma population;
- Encourage local and regional administrations to use Structural Funds for the inclusion of Roma population, providing guidance on how to do it, the processes, the approaches, etc.
Meeting´s participants will also have the opportunity to hear from the European Commission about the EU Framework for national strategies on Roma integration released on 5 April. This will be a good opportunity for Commission’s representatives, Network members and other meeting’s participants to exchange views on how the national strategies can be developed and, mainly, how the Structural Funds could support these strategies.
Finally, Network partners will get an inside on how the Structural Funds work in the Czech Republic, the host country for this meeting, and which initiatives and projects promote the social inclusion of Roma population.
