Open Days: Getting European Institutions Closer

From 7th to 9th October 2008 Brussels welcomed a European Week of Regions and Cities. In this ocassion the EURoma Network was presented. The OPEN DAYS is an event co-organised by the Committee of Regions and the Commission's DG for Regional Policy to attract a wide range of participants who want to know a bit more about what is happening in the EU, why it matters and how it affects their local community.

The European Commission and its 27 national representations in each of the Member States are active in the organisation of the local events. This year 233 local events took place in 31 countries as part of the 'Europe in my Region/City' initiative, in the framework of the OPEN DAYS 2008 European Week of Regions and Cities.

The programme, that run for three days from 7th October to 9th October, was composed of working sessions grouped under four themes:

  1. Innovating regions: Promoting research, technological development and innovation
  2. Sustainable development: Regional responses to climate change
  3. Cooperation and networking: Exchange of best practice in regional development
  4. Looking forward: A European cohesion policy for tomorrow 

For the goal of the EURoma Network it was remarkable some topics discussed on the third working sessions, as to be mentioned the “Structural Funds and Support to Roma Community” and “Learning for Change: support of transnational and interregional cooperation under the ESF”, "Integration of migrants and ethnic minorities in the labour market", among others.

Particularly, EURoma Network was presented by the Spanish ESF Managing Authority at the Workshop “Structural Funds and support to Roma Community” as a good initiative for the region in a challenging world.
