Structural Funds: Investing in Roma
July, 2011
The EU Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs recently published a study on measures to promote the situation of Roma EU citizens in the EU.This study introduces a critical assessment of the national action plans, measures and key instruments designed to promote the situation of Roma EU citizens in the EU, focusing on six new and six old member states. It identifies the legal instruments and policies which can be used and put in place at the EU level, outlines the elements of a European Strategy for Roma Inclusion, and presents practical policy recommendations for the facilitation of Roma integration in the EU.
The publication also underlines relevant initiatives as the EURoma Network not only as a provider of relevant information, data and knowledge but also as a positive experience working to improve ministerial coordination, horizontally and with lower administrative levels – including regional authorities and Roma representative organisations including national and international NGOs -.
