The 17th International Steering Committee Meeting of the Decade of Roma Inclusion, organised under the Slovak Decade Presidency, takes place on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2009 in Spisska Nova Ves.
The Steering Committee Meeting focused on reviewing the Decade Roma National Action plans, analysing the achievement of the objectives set and the activities undertaken by Decade member states. Significant emphasis was put on the need to improve Roma access to education, as well as inter-cultural education, with analyses of Slovakia’s initiatives in that field. The Roma Education Fund presented the launch of its study of Roma and special education in Slovakia. Issues related to Roma identity and discourse were also addressed.
